Oboist, singer/songwriter, and featured artist of the Terrapin Record Label, Lydia Consilvio has been singing for as long as she has been speaking. She started her musical training with eleven years of piano lessons starting in the second grade. As a classical piano pupil, she had an affinity for jazz (just like her grandfather, reed player of the Temperance Seven, and pianist/composer great-grandfather Bert Whittam). She surprised audiences as a little girl when she would perform ragtime numbers with criss-crossed hands. Lydia has been known to tend towards the unexpected.

Lydia began playing the oboe in seventh grade and has continued to pursue it professionally at Eastman, Yale, and now UMD. She was a soprano in the Christ Church Schola Cantorum while attending Eastman.

Lydia started writing songs in high school and had the opportunity to perform one of them for distinguished songwriter Kara DioGuardi in 2015. She was recognized as a semifinalist in the Bernard/Ebb Songwriting Awards and received Honorable Mention in UMD’s State Song Lyric Competition in 2018. She recently performed her song “Craving a Heartbreak” with rapper Konshens the MC in a live show at One Love Massive HQ.

Lydia is currently producing an album which she plans to release in 2020. Her compositions explore elements of minimalism, jazz, classical, bluegrass, and pop. A distinct feature of her music is the use of oboe and English horn as an underlying texture in the sound. Sometimes she uses an electronic loop station to accompany herself while performing. Hear songs from her upcoming album at @Milkboy on November 28th at 7pm.
